Final Thoughts....

This case is a sad one and will remain a topic of discussion for weeks, months and possibly years.

In thinking about what has taken place, I can't help but arrive at the following observations:

If nothing else comes of this, it should at least spur on discussions in families across the nation about 'Living Wills'. Every family should know what the wishes are and they should be very specific and written down.

In this case, there are those who say what she wanted, unfortunately, in the absence of a living will, there is only one person that truly knows what they would have wanted, and unfortunately, she will take that to her grave with her.

To me, a feeding tube and ventilator or two entirely different items and I realize there will be those that say there is no difference.

Starvation and dehydration - now if that's not considered cruel and inhuman then I suggest we start clearing off death row beginning immediately. Now this will never happen - we all know that because death row inmates have more rights than anyone on this planet.

People are outraged at Lethal Injection, they say it's cruel ... well, seems that the courts feel starvation and dehydration is not .. works for me as long its applied equally to all.

BTW - why do they wipe off the condemned's arm with an alcohol patch before inserting the needle?

I did see another post questioning why the family didn't file for divorce on their daughter's behalf ... seems to me Adultery would have been fairly easy to prove. In doing so, they could have let Mike get on with his life and take over her care. It's an interesting point.

There are many things that have come out regarding care she did or did not receive and medical records that the husband apparently blocked the family getting - I'm quite sure this will all play out in the coming months. I don't know if anything wrong was done, but I am sure we'll all find out ....

One last observation - with regards to final wishes, it would be interesting to hear from those who accept starvation and dehydration, what their final wishes would be ...
