Liberals are Trying to Silence Rush
"They said we've got to do something about this. These are nothing but far right-wing extremists. We've got to have a balance. There's got to be a legislative fix for this" -Senator James Inhofe recounting a conversation he heard from Senators Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer
Then why does the Left want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine?
Because they think that if they can silence talk radio... if they can silence Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity... they can silence us too... and in the end... THEY THINK THEY CAN SILENCE YOU!
But don't take our word for it.
According to the Heritage Foundation, the so-called "Fairness Doctrine":
"... puts immense power into the hands of federal regulators. And in fact, the fairness doctrine was used by both the Kennedy and Nixon Administrations to limit political opposition. Telecommunications scholar Thomas W. Hazlett notes that under the Nixon Administration, 'License harassment of stations considered unfriendly to the Administration became a regular item on the agenda at White House policy meetings.'"
But its always been that way. Years ago, Bill Ruder, John F. Kennedy's Assistant Secretary of Commerce said:
"Our massive strategy was to use the Fairness Doctrine to challenge and harass right-wing broadcasters and hope the challenges would be so costly to them that they would be inhibited and decide it was too expensive to continue."
And what about now?
Senator Dianne Feinstein told Chris Wallace of Fox News: "Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way."
"It's time to re-institute the Fairness Doctrine," said Senator Durbin
Howard Dean said: "We need to re-regulate the media."
And Trent Lott who pads around Capitol Hill, disguised as a free-speech conservative thundered: "Talk radio is running America... We have to deal with that problem."
These are just the most outspoken. Few Democrats and RINOs would fail to support a bill that will allow them to run Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham off the air by hassling radio stations that carry their programs.
