Congressman Assaults Student on Washington Sidewalk

As I see it, Congressman Etheridge (D-NC) didn’t “Assault” this student.  I don’t think he attacked him either.

Was he wrong for grabbing the phone out of his hand?  Yes.

Was he a bit rude?  Yes.

Was he wrong for grabbing the kid’s arm?  Yes.

Was he wrong for grabbing the kid around the neck?  Yes.

But, I dont think he was being malicious.  I think he is just as paranoid as a congressman should be.  He was alone, walking down the street, and had no idea who these kids were.

I am sure the kids didn’t have any badges or external form of ID.

The congressman, or anyone else for that matter, has a right to know who he is talking to.  The kids should have immediately identified themselves.

I am not a reporter, but I think there is a code of ethics whereby the reporter is supposed to identify themselves.  These kids did not, after being asked several times by Congressman Etheridge.

This incident is being taken completely out of proportion, and this Congressman should issue an apology.  But to be impeached?  Arrested?  Come on…lets save the lynching for Obomo.
