Dr. Kevorkian is denied release from prison

Jack Kevorkian. The Doctor of Death. Or, an angel of mercy?
My grandfather died from Asbestos related lung carcinoma several years ago. He was a proud veteran of the Korean conflict, and a patriot. All of his life, he was a leader, teacher, father, and friend to many people. He was one hard ass mother fucker who did what he said and never broke a promise.
To watch him erode during his final months of life was painful. He begged me to help him out of his misery, NOT because he was in pain, but because he was so proud that he didn't want those around him to suffer. Yes, even in his last weeks and days, he was more concerned about those around him than himself. My grandfather eventually died in his sleep....not when he wanted to, but peacefully. God rest his sole.
Jack Kevorkian is not a murderer. Why is it illegal to take one's own life? Is it because the government wants to milk you out of your last penny before you croak? Why? Its your life, do with it what you want! After all, its LEGAL to smoke cigarettes, isn't it? Isn't smoking killing yourself albeit slowly?
And, for those who want to take their own life, is there really a need to do it the messy way when you can look to people like Dr. Kevorkian to allow you to end your life with dignity?
My dear brother in law lost his father this year to suicide. He found his father lying on the floor having taken his life with a gun. Can you imagine the grief that he has to face every day when he remembers how he last saw his father laying on the floor like that?
If human's want to end their life, then they should have the right to do so with dignity. Whether life is being robbed by some incurable cancer, or if life simply is too long for some, we should have the right to do what we may with it. After all, its our lives.
